Greetings Clients, Students and all interested in The Weave Institute!!!
A persistent problem continues to plague African American women's hair all over the country. In every Black community there are hairstylists who perform the sewn per tack weave on a sister, a cousin, a client or a friend. Most women believe the sewn per track method does not damage their hair because it is cornrowed, however, the form of cornrow that sewn per track requires is especially harmful. The two pressure points where the sewn per track cornrow begins is the source of the problem. After several applications, these pressure points become bruised because the beginning cornrows are too weak to hold the weft hair. This method stops the growth of your hair at the pressure points. Who would want to subject themselves to hair loss due to the sewn per track method? Not many! Kim Connell is here to reveal the healthy alternative, The Anchored Weave! This technique is an effective solution that provides support for the cornrows, allows your hair to grow and the final product is as fabulous as an original sewn per track. Kim Connell's goal is for clients to care for their hair while it rests under a weave. Many stylists disregard the need to nurture the natural hair of clients because they are more concerned with how the weave looks. It is important to accomplish both healthy hair underneath and beautiful hair above! A course on the Anchored Weave technique is coming soon. Be the first to sign up for this innovative, healthy alternative to sewn per track!!!

Chris Rock, "Good Hair" Sparks Interest at Fox 5 for Salon Obsessions
Silver Spring, Md.- On Friday, October 9, 2009, the DC FOX 5 News aired a segment on the premiere of Chris Rock's new acclaimed documentary, "Good Hair." The consistent buzz about this film derives from Rock's humorous spin on exposing African American women and their weaves. The documentary also has people inquiring about the million-dollar hair weaving industry. In an interview with Salon Obsessions owners, Barry and Kim Connell and client, Erika Barrera, FOX 5 brought the secrets of the booming hair industry to light!
Kim Connell: International Weave Specialist
For the past eight years, Kim Connell has been the owner of Salon Obsessions: The Weave Institute located in Silver Spring, MD. As a custom tailor for over twenty years, eight of those years were devoted to establishing herself as a Master tailor at the high-end retailer, Nordstrom. She was trained to be meticulous in every facet of her work. This innate work ethic allowed her to transform her love of tailoring into the art of weave and wig making. She infuses high quality craftsmanship into even the simplest of designs. Kim conducts weave and wig-making classes at cosmetology schools in Maryland (American Beauty Academy, Aspen Beauty Academy), Washington, DC (The Bennett Institute), Richmond Va.(Beauty Superstars Symposium), Baltimore, Atlanta, Georgia (Bronner Bros. Shows), The Dominican Republic (Glynn Jackson Hair Show) as well as in her own salon. She enjoys teaching weave and custom-wig creations from the foundation (various cornrow methods to make the weave smooth and undetectable) to closure methods (plug closure and her newly developed tornado closure) all with her unique “Tailored Touch.” Her goal is teach from a tailor’s point of view and bestow her knowledge to the up and coming weave artists in the industry.
